The way HER is designed, the report cards strictly follow the quarters as defined in the school calendar. The report card also puts all "grade 5" (credit-type) courses in the 5th grade report card, "grade 6" courses in the 6th grade report card etc. If you end a course mid-quarter, the report card will still work, and it will have blank grades for any quarters not involved. The same will apply to a new course started mid-quarter. HER is also designed to not carry over courses from one school year to the next. A "workaround" for this is to complete the course in year 1 with an "Inc" (incomplete grade) and make the course-type "O" (other) so that year won't show up on a report card or transcript -- then in year 2 make the course a credit-type and finish the course. The report card in year 2 will be partial for this course, but the transcript will look normal. You would probably need to force the final grade to be what it really should be (mentally including any grading from the previous year).
