Sharing HER on two computers
Previous  Top  Next

Although the HER license agreement (see inside the User Manual) prohibits the installation and use of HER on more than one computer at a time, I make an exception for those who wish to "shuttle" their data between two PCs. When you do this, however, you must be very careful to observe the following rule.

Rule: Your HER data is valid on only one PC at a time.

Note: HER is not designed to be a shared database on a network. If you have a home network, you cannot share the data in a "live" manner. You can still use the network as a shortcut in the following method, however.

Here's how to shuttle your HER data. "Computer A" has the most recent data on it and you want to shuttle the data to "computer B"…

- On computer A, do a "backup database" (File menu) to either a floppy, zip or a shared network drive.

- On computer B, do a "restore database" (File menu) from the backup you just created.

As soon as you enter new data on computer B, it now has the newest data. So now IT becomes "computer A" when you follow the steps above the next time you shuttle your data. You cannot enter new data on both computers at the same time -- only on the computer with the latest data.

If you mistakenly enter new data on computer B. You should re-enter it on A because A has the freshest data and that data will overwrite the data on B when you shuttle it.
