Date Entry in HomeSchool Easy Records
Previous  Top  Next

In version 2 of HomeSchool Easy Records, it is easier than ever to enter dates in the Lessons screen.

Default Entry in Lessons Screen

The "new record" line is the line at the bottom with the asterisk (*) to the left. This line will have a date already there for you and it should match the date of the most recent lesson. If you want to change this date when entering a new lesson, you can press the + or - keys to increment or decrement the date or you can press the T key to have today's date appear. You can also type in the whole date yourself, but that's extra work.

Year 2000

Once you have at least one lesson entry for the year 2000, it is not necessary to type in "2000" -- just use the features mentioned above. BUT IT CAN GET CONFUSING IF YOUR PC IS NOT SET TO SHOW ALL FOUR DIGITS FOR THE YEAR IN THE DATE FORMAT SETTING OF WINDOWS! For peace of mind, you should do the following...

To Set Your PC to Display 4-Digit Years

1) Click on the Start button in the bottom left corner of your screen

2) Point to Settings then click on Control Panel

3) Double-click on Regional Settings when you are in the control panel

4) Click on the Date tab when viewing the regional settings

5) Where it says Short Date Style, select the M/d/yyyy or MM/dd/yyyy

setting. Make sure you pick one with four "y" digits.

6) Click on OK and close the control panel window.

Your PC will now display all four year digits when you are using HomeSchool Easy Records (and other programs too).

Manual Date Entry

If you ever DO decide to manually enter a date (anywhere in the program), be sure to enter all four digits for the year (as in "2000"), otherwise you will get a warning stating that you can't enter this date. This will not be a problem in any future release of HomeSchool Easy Records.

Error Safe

HomeSchool Easy Records will not allow you to accidentally enter a date for 1900, 1901, etc. It will catch you if you try!

One Thing is Confusing Anyway

I did manage to get something wrong with this automatic date entry stuff in the Lessons screen. As soon as you enter a new date in the new-record line, the date that WAS there pops in on the NEW new-record line below. This may not be the date you want for the NEXT new record entry. To solve this, when you get to the next new line, just press the F4 key (to duplicate the date from the line above) or press the T key to enter today's date. Sorry about that!

The F4 Key

With version 2 of HER, the F4 key is very useful for duplicating data from the line above (a box at a time) in the Lessons screen. Just put the cursor in the empty data box and press F4. The text from the same box in the line above will appear. Now you may wish to change the page numbers, etc. If you are creating lessons for one course at a time, turn on the course filter and this trick will work well because you only see lessons for that course.
