If you use the Date Bump or AutoCopy features and you are having problems with a "syntax error", this note is for you. Date Bump is a feature that came out in version 1.1 -- it allows you to quickly move one or more lessons ahead in time for one or more students (in case your schedule gets delayed). You begin the process by double-clicking on date of the earliest lesson you want to bump. The AutoCopy feature also came out in version 1.1 -- it allows you to quickly copy a lesson from one student to another. You begin by double-clicking on the lesson text that you want to copy.
Sometimes you can get the following error message... "Syntax error in a record has been found..." and you can't bump lessons or autocopy lessons. Unfortunately, the underlying problem is different in each case. With version 2.0c... * The AutoCopy feature has problems if there are double-quotes (") in the lesson text. * The Date Bump has problems if there are apostrophes (') in the lesson text (in any lesson that will be bumped). If you can avoid the use of " and ' marks altogether (in your lesson text) you will avoid both of these problems. Perhaps use a ` mark (usually this is the key to the left of the number 1 key) instead of a ' mark -- or you can eliminate the mark that causes you a problem, if you only use one of these features (autocopy or date bump). A future release of HER will allow ' marks (apostrophes) for Date Bump.
To quickly FIND the marks you want, put your cursor in the first lesson for the year and use the Edit menu (top of screen) and then the Find feature. Search in "Any Part of Field" (the Where box) to find the marks you want, then replace them with an alternative, or delete them. NOTE! YOU MUST USE THE "ANY PART OF FIELD" FEATURE WHEN SEARCHING FOR SINGLE CHARACTERS. With earlier versions... The problem may only exist with apostrophes in both AutoCopy and Lesson Bump.
You can replace apostrophes with ` or " to avoid the problem.
